Rooney and Ferdinand Expected to be Fit for Chamions League Quarter Final
Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand are expected to be fit for Tueday’s UEFA Champions League Quarter Final first leg against Bayern Munich, of Germany, according to the BBC this morning.
If this is true, it looks like they will have the upper hand in the injury stakes, as Bayern look set to play the tie without Arjen Robben, who has been a revelation since joining the club from the Doldrums or Real Madrid.
Robben must have loved scoring that phenomenal winner against Fiorentina last week all the more as both of his former clubs – Chelsea and Real Madrid – were to fall in the same round. However, without his impact, can we expect Man United to take a vidtory home from Munich?
History would indicate not however, as, in the 11 years since their unforgettable 2-1 Champs League final victory against Bayern, United have failed to defeat their German rivals in 7 meetings. Count them. Seven.
Having said that, they have not met with a striker in the form of Wayne Rooney, and, apart from Ribery and Robben, Bayen are not the world beaters they once were (Fiorentina were, in truth, a little unlucky not to knock them out a couple of weeks ago). We expect United to progress, but roll on Tuesday for this rematch of the sides who share 7 Champions Leagues between them.
