Germany v Wales 15/10/2008 Highlights
Germany took on Wales last night in their World Cup 2010 UEFA Group 4 match, with Trochowski of Germany scoring this sensational winner on 72 minutes after a good performance from the Welsh to keep out the Germans.
This knack, though, of winning tight matches has got Germany into the final stages of more tournaments than almost any other national side: they know how to win tight competitive football matches.
A superb goal by any standards settled this game, though Wales will be disappointed not to have come away with a point after yet again failing to get something from a game in which much was promised – Wales produced a similar performance only to go down 2-1 in Russia last month.
John Toshacks men now look to have it all to do to qualify from this most difficult of groups as they now trail Germany by 4 points – though there is still a long way to go, a point would have seen them lead the group (albeit with the russians holding a game in hand).
Group 5 now looks like this:
| P | W | D | L | F | A | GD | Pts | ||
| 1 | Germany | 4 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 12 | 4 | 8 | 10 |
| 2 | Russia | 3 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 6 | 3 | 3 | 6 |
| 3 | Wales | 4 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 4 | 3 | 1 | 6 |
| 4 | Finland | 3 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 4 | 6 | -2 | 4 |
| 5 | Azerbaijan | 3 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 2 | -2 | 1 |
| 6 | Liechtenstein | 3 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 8 | -8 | 1 |

A look at the replays on this one show that the goalkeeper should maybe have done better, but look at the movement on that ball. Frightening. There’s no spin to speak of yet it dips and curls!
