Archie Thornton

Hi, I'm Archie Thornton. I thought it was about time I put a bit into this section! A lot of people ask me which team I support. Funnily enough, I can't call myself a fan of any one team as I spent every Saturday from as far back as I can remember playing football not watching it - I do follow a few teams, though, usually because I know people who play for them. For example, I tend to look up the results for Sunderland, Newcastle, Hull City, Tottenham Hotspur, Man United, Liverpool and Chelsea first. Just because I haven't mentioned a team doesn't mean I dislike them either...

Video: Messi 4 Goals – Barcelona v Arsenal

Well, we have to watch this again, if only just to marvel at Mister Messi and his incredible ability to make the highest level of football look like it was invented only as his playground.
If we scored these four in a two hour training session, we’d still be talking about that mythical event for years [...]

Messi Bags Four to Sink Gunners – UEFA Champions League 2010

While we are Premier Football mad here at the Premier Football Blog, Final Whistle, we have to hold our hands up and admit when we are well beaten: Lionel Messi was immense last night with four superbly taken goals that proved to be the difference as Barce knocked out Arsenal 6-3 on aggregate in their [...]

Manchester United Destroy AC Milan 4-0 at Old Trafford - UEFA Champions League 2010

Manchester United Destroy AC Milan 4-0 at Old Trafford – UEFA Champions League 2010

As we waxed lyrical about the performance of Arsenal on Tuesday night – and spoke of how it pointed to the English Premier League (we are The Premier Football Blog after all!) as one of the strongest in the world – we couldn’t really let messers Rooney and co go about demolishing Italian past-masters Milan [...]

Arsenal Smash Porto 5-0 to take place in UEFA Champion's League Quarter Finals

Arsenal Smash Porto 5-0 to take place in UEFA Champion’s League Quarter Finals

As we are the Premier Football Blog, we thought that we should talk about Arsenal’s stunning demolition of Porto at the Emirates last night in their last 16 of the UEFA Champion’s League 2010 second-leg clincher.
Arsenal sailed through 6-2 on aggregate, despite a nervy first-round performance suggesting they might falter in this two-legged race.
Falter they [...]

Football Gets All Nostalgic as Man Utd Host Leeds

How short, it seems, our memories are in the fickle world of football!
Just over five years ago, Leeds United were a Premier League football team. Around ten years ago, David O’Leary had amassed a squad of excellent ability which was playing in the Champion’s League and looking like making a serious challenge to the title.
The [...]

Great Goals: Dietmar Hamann Liverpool v Portsmouth 2004

Firstly two admissions:
1) I’ve been neglecting Finalwhistle.vg for the past few months, despite my somewhat optimistic claim that this would be a weekly publication, so apologies to those of you who have suddenly noticed your RSS reader or whatnot sputtering into life with this sporadic and out-of-the-blue entry!
2) I wholeheartedly and unashamedly stole this video [...]

Separated at Birth – Heurelho Gomes and Flik from “A Bug’s Life”

Before I show you the photographic evidence, I must first say that Heurelho Gomes was outstanding on the weekend for Spurs against Portsmouth – he probably got his team 3 points in that game, and is beginning to look like the quality ‘keeper we knew him to be before his first few games for Tottenham [...]

On Adebayor: Let's Give Wenger Some Credit!

On Adebayor: Let’s Give Wenger Some Credit!

Arsene Wenger has met with criticism from many camps over the past season or two after Arsenal have failed to achieve the same standard that he had brought during his first few heady years with the club.
Saturday’s match with Man City would seem to point to the fact that the Arsenal manager has dropped another [...]
